Dumplings made for royal
This is about my mum, my family and our Dumpling House. My name is Lei, My mum Shujie Yang is the fifth-generation dumpling maker from Harbin, north east of China. Her great-grandfather was famous for the dumplings he cooked for the Chinese Royal family.
Traditionally sons carry on the family business, but mum learned nutrition and Chinese traditional herbal medicine, learned the family skills, then transferred these skills to New Zealand when she moved to stay with me in Hamilton in 2008.
I met my husband Lee at the University of Waikato when we studied business there as international students in 2003. We started Dumpling House as a family business ten years ago. What a challenging and fantastic ten years it has been! We have met a lot of customers, customers then became friends, friends then became families! Mum, Lee and I are all working together, we feel we are contributing our skills to the community, bringing some new culture to this beautiful country.
We truly have been working hard to make Dumpling House a true success story based on authenticity and good quality. "They made the effort to bring the awesome food to meet the demand of locals and visitors..."
